How to make and receive iPhone calls on your mac

Apple iDevice developers try to get closer to the peoples than ever before. Latest iOS 8 and OS X Yosemite Continuity feature is the one of the great example for this. With this continuity feature, you can make and receive iPhone calls on your iPad, iPod touch and Mac computer.

Things to consider- this feature works only on an iOS 8 or later versions and Mac OS X Yosemite running computer. both devices has to be on the same Wi-Fi network and log in to the Face time and iCloud account with the same Apple ID. Check your iPhone cellular network is enabled (Face time) and  iPhone cellular calls enabled on your Mac (Face time / Preference)


How to make and received iPhone calls on your iPad, iPod touch or Mac computer –

  • Make a call on your Mac OS X Yosemite –


To make a phone call on your Mac, simply select contact number your want to make a call and click on the phone icon. You can also click on the phone number in Safari, Messages, Spot light search or Calender to make calls on your Mac.

You will also see a green banner notification on your iPhone, which is an indication that your iPhone is being used for a phone call. If you tap on it, it will launch the phone app, and you can continue with the call from your iPhone. It will you inform you on the Mac then the call was transferred to iPhone.


  • Receive iPhone call on your Mac –


When you receive a call to your iPhone, now it shows the caller’s name, number and profile picture. You can accept or decline the call, send the caller a message or even set a reminder to call back in 5 mins, 15 mins or 1 hour, right from your Mac.

Click on accept to answer and your Mac becomes a speakerphone, allowing you to make a phone conversation.

When you receive a call on our Mac, you will hear the same ringtone you have for that on your iPhone.


Turn off iPhone cellular calls –

If you don’t want to make or receive iPhone calls on your Mac computer, go to Settings > Face Time and turn off iPhone cellular Calls.

On your Mac, open the Face time app and go to Face Time > Preferences. Click Settings and deselect the iPhone cellular calls option.
